Kingscliff

Castles at Kingscliff began with a rooftop conversation about one thing — the view. Architect Scott Carpenter and his client set out to reclaim the outlook toward Byron Bay while shutting out the western sun and the neighbours to the south. The answer was a three-storey home organised around a bold corner form — the “eyes” of the building — that holds an unbroken sightline across the panorama, with a top-floor bar and entertaining level that opens right out through a bi-fold system. To follow the angles of the site the glazing sits at 105 degrees rather than a standard 90, which Window Makers resolved in the AWS Vantage system — windows and doors that, as the architect puts it, succeed precisely because they seem to disappear.
